Today we honor our military Veterans who have served our country! Our local Veterans Home has some fantastic individuals living there. Currently, they have 18 Veterans who served in World War II, 21 who served in the Korean War, 45 that served in the Vietnam War, and eight others that served in the Gulf War and the War on Terror. This particular Veterans Home is just one of over 150 State Veterans Homes nationwide. We are grateful for their sacrifice and service on our behalf.
Veterans Day on November 11th honors military veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces. The federal holiday coincides with Armistice Day and Remembrance Day which marks the end of World War I. These observances reflect the end of significant hostilities at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. Initially, the United States observed Armistice Day as well. However, it evolved into the current Veterans Day in 1954.National Day Calendar
In 2017, our family had a reunion honoring my grandparents, Wells and Myrle. My grandpa, Wells, served in the Navy in World War II. He was a cook on a troop carrier in the Pacific Ocean. He cooked the servicemen and women on the ship, as well as British and American prisoners of war. He is a man we genuinely love, a man of great character.
