I love you, Dad!

Today, I would like to pay tribute to my Dad! When I think of my Dad, I can’t help but smile. The relationship between a little girl and her daddy can be a special one. For a little girl, her daddy can play an essential role in “firsts” in her life; first hero, first provider, first dance partner, first repairman, first knight in shining armor, first disciplinarian, first comedian, first man of her dreams, first protector, first Prince Charming, and first male friend. 🕺🏻💃🏻

My Dad taught me many things. One, which comes to mind, is the importance of budgeting and living within your means. I can hear him say, “Do you want me to show you the books?” Honestly, he says it from time to time even to today. 🤣 Each month Dad would sit down, one on one, with my siblings and me. We were given an allowance of sorts, which was deposited into our own bank account. He would then have us write out our checks for our extracurricular activities. I knew how a bank account worked well before I ever knew how to drive. 🏦 💵

He also taught me to drive. I learned to drive on the snowy Utah roads, driving a red Chevette with a stick shift. My little sister, who came with us, returned home and asked my mom to teach her to drive. Although he was frustrated teaching me, I knew he loved me and he knew I would learn to drive and drive well. Thanks, Dad, for your patience. ❄️🚗❄️

One of my fondest childhood memories is having my Dad tuck us in at night; he would ask what age. My sister, which everyone was I was currently sharing a room with, would choose an age and he would tell us a story from his childhood. Then I would select an age or a repeat story from a different night, and he would share with us his adventures as a young boy. Most of the stories were funny ones, which would get us laughing. I’m not sure my Mom appreciated that aspect of Dad tucking us in. 🛌

GoodGrandma℠ has several posts about my Dad. We have shared traditions, stories, and spotlighted him. He is a remarkable man! I appreciate him and am grateful for all he has sacrificed in being Dad, Grandpa, and Pops. Two of his characteristics which stand out to me are; one, he is a kind man with a strong intuition when I need a listening ear, a hug, or guidance. Two, I love his sense of humor and our ongoing joke of “Joe’s Bar and Grill.” He can always make me smile. It only takes him saying, “Don’t smile, there’s a smile creeping up your arm, and there it is,” I’m smiling. 😀

I love you, Dad! Thank you for your patience, love, humor, respect and appreciation for our Mom, hard-work, dedication, kindness, games, determination, lessons, talents, understanding, and guidance. You are one in a million! 👴🏻🧡💡

P.S. I touched you last! 🤪
