Several months ago GoodGrandma℠ noticed sweet baby Whitney’s neck seemed a little off. She was just learning to sit up and her head would always tilt to one side. It appeared as if her neck was kinked or that she was not able to hold her up her head correctly. Her neck was of concern to me, but was it my place, as grandma, to say something?

I debated whether I should say something and possibly offend my daughter or to let it go and just see what happens. Well, I said something. At first my daughter was a little defensive, wanting to believe that her daughter was fine. A few days later, my daughter called and told me her and her husband had decided to take Whitney to a pediatric chiropractor to look at her neck. After I had said something to her, they decided it was best to look into what they could do to help Whitney.

The pediatric chiropractor found that in fact Whitney’s alignment was off. The chiropractor adjusted her neck, which also helped with her acid reflux. Whitney’s mom learned that Whitney’s alignment issue probably started in the womb and only became apparent as she started trying to hold up her own head.  Whitney continued to see the chiropractor over the next several months to help her neck muscles function properly.

Whitney is now ten months old and is getting close to walking. She is an active, happy, and healthy baby. I am glad I said something, but I would never want to over step my daughter in her role as mother. I am grateful she was willing to listen and was able to come to me and communicate her concerns. My goal as grandma is to let my children parent and not get in the way. I had my turn to parent and I tried to do my best, but know I wasn’t perfect by any means. Now as my children parent, I want them to know they can come to me. I’ll offer my opinion but not be offended if it’s not used.
