Today I had the opportunity to read with, almost four-month-old, Beau. We read “Cookie’s Week”, by Cindy Ward. This book introduces the days of the week, as well as mischievousness and consequences. I think my daughter liked it as a little girl because the cat, Cookie, got into some sort of trouble each day of the week. I assume she felt like she wasn’t alone in her daily exploring. Although Beau doesn’t understand the story at his age, it has been shown to be very important to read to infants. It prepares the child to learn to read, improves mental ability, increases vocabulary, and, my favorite, gives me time to snuggle with my grand-baby.
