Grandma’s Tradition

Papa Rich and I welcomed a sweet new granddaughter this past November. To keep with my tradition of a white crocheted blanket, I started and finished Covey’s blanket for her blessing day. Last Sunday, Covey was blessed wearing her beautiful white dress, and with her new white blanket.

It was a wonderful day! Covey’s mom out did herself! She had adorable decorations and a delicious breakfast bar in their home prior to the blessing. Covey’s daddy gave her an amazing blessing—it was a perfect blessing!

When I was a baby, I had a white crocheted sweater and booties made for me by my Great Grandma, Mary Jane. I treasured the sweater and booties through the years—so much so that my three oldest girls wore the same dress, sweater, and booties the day they were blessed. I now have the baby clothing hanging in a shadow box frame. As my grandchildren become adults and have children of their own, my hope is the white crocheted blanket will be something they treasure and perhaps become heirlooms for the generations to come. February 2018, I shared the IDEA of making a special blanket for a grandchild’s blessing or christening day.
