Last week, Papa Rich and I welcomed a new granddaughter to the family. Along with her sweet parents, we welcomed Covey Ann to the world. She decided to make an early entrance, but even arriving three weeks early she weighed 6 pounds even. Both mom and baby are doing well, and the cute family of four is adjusting to the changes.

Covey’s mom had gone in for her routine weekly doctors visit and was sent to the hospital due to elevated blood pressure. I got a call about big brother, Jude, and I was ready and willing to take him whenever baby sister decided to make her appearance. I picked up Jude from his aunt’s house in the afternoon and we drove to my home for a sleepover.

Jude and I played trains for awhile (a long while.) I made the mistake of taking different toys to his house for playdates and quickly learned that trains are a must when playing with Jude! Aunt Lauren was a great helper with dinner, bath time, and bedtime. It’s times like this I’m glad I am prepared Grandma. I had blankets, diapers, wipes, a bottle, and snacks ready for Jude’s visit. We did have to make a stop at Walmart to pick up some Mickey Mouse pjs for the night. I decided to buy a little baby doll for Jude to help with the transition. We talked about the baby, where her eyes were, her nose, her fingers, etc. We talked about how to be so gentle with the baby. Hopefully this prepared him for meeting his new baby sister the next day.

The following morning, Papa Rich met Jude and me at the hospital to meet the new little princess. We were all very excited to meet Covey, and little anxious to see Jude’s response to Mommy having a baby. We entered the hospital room, having alerted Mom and Dad of our arrival.

As we quietly entered the room, Jude started to cry when he saw his Mommy. He had missed her so much! She cuddled and soothed him and talked about the baby doll. Once Jude was ready, Dad brought Covey over to meet Jude. It was thrilling to watch him as he tried to figure out what was happening in his world.

Jude’s parents were prepared and ready for this day. Baby sister had a gift to give Jude. He is all boy; he loves cars, trucks, and motorcycles. It was only fitting that Covey gave him a motorcycle. Jude was in heaven! I think he is going to be okay with his new little sister he fondly calls Covey Car!
