GoodGrandma℠ always loves it when family comes to visit! This past week was a busy one around our house. We had family coming and going. We started the week off with Laura and her girls arriving to visit with us, cousins, and extended family members. We had several of our kids join us for a dinner and s’mores on Tuesday night. Mary, with three of her kids, joined in the fun and spent the night. The next day Jenny and Hillary and kids joined in as well for an afternoon of cousin time.

On Friday, we had a fun visit from Papa Rich’s brother, Roger, and his wife, Jan. They joined us for pizza from Papa Murphy’s–a quick and easy dinner. That night Courtney, Paige, and Madison, with their families, came for the weekend. We took all who could make it swimming Saturday afternoon. At one point my parents joined us for dinner. We were able to take a four generation picture; Grandma Connie, Me, Courtney, and Raegan. It was a full week of family and fun!

Here are some suggestions of ways to make everyone’s visits memorable, and, at the same time, stay sane:

  • Kid friendly dishes with easy access (a great drawer for toddlers to play in).
  • Hooks, hooks, and more hooks. Places to hang wet swimsuits, towels, or other items.
  • Empty drawers in rooms or bathrooms for guests to use.
  • Baby spoons, bibs, and baby food for the little ones, and, of course, diapers and wipes. A prepared grandma is a GoodGrandma.
  • Extra toothbrushes for those who forgot theirs (Sophie ????).
  • If needed, a port-a-crib, as well as a highchair (a Bumbo can be a great substitute for a highchair).
  • Extra towels in bathrooms–bath towels and washcloths.
  • Extra sheets, making it easy to change and wash the bedding between guests.
  • Ask guests before they arrive what food items they would like while they are visiting.
    • Stock up!
    • Almond milk for those who are lactose intolerant.
    • Keep food allergies in mind.
    • Favorite treats (Abby loves cheeseballs).
    • Fruits and Veggies are always a hit at our house.
    • Ice cream bars, popcorn, peanut butter (for Mike), etc.

My mom always taught me that everything has a place and everything should be in its place. If guests know where things are located, it’s a helpful way for them to keep things tidy and neat–thus, helping keep your sanity with a housefull!
