Summer Library Reading Programs

Grandmas! One of the easiest and cheapest ways to entertain grandchildren is to go to your local library. When planning summer visits with grandkids and activities for Grandma’s Camp, don’t forget to check out your library’s summer schedule.

GoodGrandma℠ highly recommends getting the kiddos signed up for a summer reading program. Or, you can create your own program! At Grandma Connie’s Grandma’s Camp the grandchildren had journal writing time, as well as reading time. Whether they read alone or Grandma read to them.

Our Book Guru Grandma, Grandma Judy, recently gave us some of her favorite picks of children’s books. If you’re not sure which children’s books to read, we encourage you to check out her list. The American Library Association also provides a suggested summer reading list, as well as provides summer reading programs across the country.

Summer break is now well underway, but it’s still not too late to implement a summer reading program. Incorporate reading into your visits to grandchildren’s homes, give books as gifts, read on vacation with them, and add reading to Grandma’s Camp agendas. Daily reading not only helps your little ones education, but it’s a great way to create fun memories together.
