Question? How do you get a good photo of young grandkids? GoodGrandma℠ has a few IDEAS!

  • Practice: Take pictures often! Remember, back in the day, purchasing film, hoping to get at least one good picture on the roll, and weeks later getting the film developed? Now, taking tons of pictures is no big deal. If grandkids are used to taking pictures, it won’t be a foreign experience when taking formal photos. Shoot away, say cheese, smile, and document your visits, playdates, and family gatherings. Practice makes perfect!
  • Plan: Plan ahead. Here’s a short list of things to consider: location, time of day, temperature, outfits, nap-time, playtime, mealtime, and bedtime. Talk with mommies to decide the best time to take group pictures. No one wants to sit still and smile when they are “hangry!” As far as outfits, pick a color scheme (give paint chips with the color selection) or buy outfits weeks in advance. Lastly, provide a treat for grandkids when pictures are done; bribery works. The treat doesn’t need to be expensive; Beau will take pictures for a piece of candy.
  • Participate: Get silly! Get down on their level and encourage happy smiles. By the way, this may be one time where too much of a good thing is too much. Don’t overwhelm the kids. Choose the most animated person to stand behind the photographer. Over stimulating the kiddos can only end in tears.
  • Patience: Don’t expect perfection. Some of the funniest photos happen when you least expect them. Remember, they are little kids. It is nearly impossible to have many young children look at the camera, smile, and sit still. Let alone not cry! Take what you can get and don’t throw a fit!

Good luck with grandkid photos; we hope our IDEAS help! If you have any other IDEAS, please share!
