Battle of Puebla

This year, Cinco de Mayo means more to GoodGrandma℠ than ever before. Many people in the United States observe Cinco de Mayo. Some have mistakenly thought it to be Mexico’s Independence Day. However, it is actually on September 16th. May 5th, Cinco de Mayo, commemorates the Mexican army defeating France in 1862, in the Battle of Puebla. This National Holiday is an opportunity to celebrate Mexican culture and heritage.

Okay, this is where the “deeper meaning” comes into play! My son, Andrew, is currently living in Puebla. I have learned a lot about Mexico, specifically Puebla. I am grateful for the kind and gracious people of Puebla. For those who have helped my son, thank you!

To celebrate with Andrew, and the people of Puebla, Papa Rich and I held a family fiesta. We ate tacos, queso, guacamole, and for dessert, churros. To wrap things up, we had piñata’s for the grandkids. We hope you have a wonderful Cinco de Mayo with your family and friends.
